The General Department of Legislation undertakes all tasks and competencies related to major and secondary legislation in accordance with the organizational structure and job description of the department. The main objective of the administration’s work is to maintain the quality of legislation and its consistency within the Palestinian system and international conventions, by expressing a legal opinion, making objective and formal observations, and reviewing and drafting legislation referred to the Bureau in accordance with the general policy and plan of legislative tools for the party submitting the draft legislation in accordance with the Legislation Preparation Law No. (4) of 1995.

It reviews sound legislative drafting methods, coordinates with universities and legal educational centers, and exchanges experiences in legislative drafting methods
